The Carolina Panthers might need a new starting cornerback after the 2026 season, with Mike Jackson set to hit free agency in 2027.
The team is currently standing 15th in the National Football Conference with a 4-13 record, on a W2 streak, and their next game is vs Chicago Bears on 2026-09-13.
The Panthers have invested heavily in Jaycee Horn, and with Jackson turning 30 in January, they may not extend his contract.
In a 2027 NFL mock draft, the Panthers take Georgia cornerback Ellis Robinson with the No. 9 pick, according to Ethan Woodie of NFL Trade Rumors.
Robinson had four interceptions, seven passes defensed, and 20 tackles in 14 contests last season.
He has exceptional ball production and quick-twitch movements, but his small frame, at 180 pounds, could be a concern against bigger receivers.
Robinson posted solid grades of 68.3 in coverage and 74.9 in run defense, according to Pro Football Focus.
The Panthers will be looking for a lockdown man-cover corner, and Robinson could be an injection of athleticism into their defense.
And with the 2027 NFL Draft approaching, the Panthers will have to decide whether to take a chance on Robinson or look elsewhere to replace Jackson.
But for now, Robinson is on the Panthers' radar, and his performance will be closely watched in the coming months.
So the question remains, will the Panthers take a chance on Robinson, or will they look to other options to shore up their defense?
The answer will have to wait until the 2027 NFL Draft, but one thing is certain, the Panthers will be looking to address their defensive needs, and Robinson is a top prospect.
